Brooklyn based Good Company Records is now on their sixth release, and each one keeps maintaining a real deep NYC underground feel. For the ‘Friends EP‘ GCR enlists one of the fam, Brian Best. You may know Brian as 1/3 of Script The Flip, or if you are ever out and about in NYC, you know Brian as that dude that plays deep dope shit at the party and when he is not behind the decks, he is making sure that everyone is having fun at the party.
Well, we are about to let you in on a little secret that we have known for quite a while, this guy is a beast in the studio. For his long awaited debut solo EP, he provides the exact flavor that he has consistently delivered for his Keep It Movin’ events. Heavily influenced by a stint in Berlin, the ‘Friends EP‘ is one deep, dark, mature EP. Brian describes his sound as “tight and wavy” – I think that he thought the question was about his hair and not his music.
The title track is a lush opener with deftly placed programming. Argentina native Manuel Sahagun adds a rolling percussive flair to the original, while Forward Disco resident Sean Cormac does a total 180 and delivers a raw warehouse vibe on his Sworn Enemies Dub. Closing out the EP in style is ‘The Resistance‘ which has NYC after hours written all over.
